Tend to your soul through story and listening in spiritual direction.

Tending to the soul is a sacred art that can bring us into deep connection with ourselves and God. It isn’t concerned with fixing or problem-solving. Instead, it’s concerned with attending to the small details of everyday life, to major changes and decisions, with an eye to heart, depth, meaning, substance and relatedness.

Storytelling is a beautiful way to tend to the soul, especially if we let go of diagnosis and interpretation, which is what we do in spiritual direction. You speak about your unfolding story and experience, and together we listen for the deep themes and sacred invitations that encircle your life.

In his ancient rule for life, St. Benedict opens with an instruction to“listen with the ear of the heart,” which is how we listen in spiritual direction. We listen to your life through the center of feeling to notice what’s happening around and within you. We also lean on this heart-listening to explore how you sense God’s presence and movement in your life.

It can be difficult to hear the voice of our deepest selves and of God in the cacophony of everyday life, which is why spiritual direction can be so supportive. It creates a monthly ritual of tending to your soul in the gentle presence of a soul-friend who desires deep connection to self and God just as much as you do.

Portrait of Lindsay McGlynn

Meet Lindsay

Lindsay is a trained spiritual director who resonates with the archetype of the wounded healer. Her healing journey is what first led her to spiritual direction, and its ongoing evolution continues to renew her calling. A lifelong seeker, Lindsay’s sense of God’s presence in her life has been many things – an anchor, a lighthouse, a haven, a dark cave, a bewildering storm. It is multifaceted, dynamic and complex, which she feels reflects the true nature of life and relationship as a human. This animates her belief that it is worthwhile to explore these mysteries and multitudes in a safe, quiet and unhurried container, like in spiritual direction.

As a highly sensitive person and an empath, Lindsay feels and notices things at a deep and often subtle level. This cultivates her heartfelt appreciation for the simple and beautiful things we often pass over, which is what makes her so passionate about slowing down to tend to the soul. The soul is nourished by the simple and the beautiful, the ordinary and the eternal – and nurturing our spirituality encourages us to appreciate and receive the gift and wisdom of these things.

Lindsay works with adults of all ages and practices in the Christian tradition. Her spiritual background is colorful: she was raised in the evangelical tradition, pursued her advanced education in the Catholic tradition, and now attends an Episcopal church. She is an oblate candidate of Saint Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph, Minn. Her personal spirituality is enriched by contemplative spiritual practices, arts and crafts, reading, writing, learning, and nature.

What People Are Saying

“I look forward to meeting with Lindsay monthly. She listens with her heart and is spirit-led when providing insights for me to ponder. She encourages me to be curious rather than fearful, accepting grace rather than feeling shame, and encourages me to be how God created me, rather than fit a preconceived mold. I am so thankful God brought us together for this part of my journey.”

“This year has been very challenging and I often experienced a gracious, loving and personal God, who met me where I was, when meeting with Lindsay. Being able to bring my grief, confusion and anger to these sessions, without judgment, allowed me to wrestle with God through them in a way I haven’t experienced, and desperately needed, in my healing journey.”

“I love when I get to start my Sunday mornings with Lindsay. Our appointments are virtual and her care and wholehearted listening is still felt from thousands of miles away. It never fails to delight me when one of her questions leads to a new understanding and I see a smile light up her face. Lindsay's presence is nurturing and supportive and I very much enjoy her virtual companionship.”
